For those of you that aren't the biggest fan of veggies, listen up. If you're already a veggie lover (like me) than this is just another bonus for you. When I found out about green monster smoothies a few months ago I've been making them like crazy ever since. They're the perfect thing to whip up anytime you're in a hurry or just looking to get in an extra serving of fruits and veggies.
I know what you're thinking, gross. Spinach in a smoothie? I promise you can't taste it.
There are a hundred different recipes to try but I always stick with my favorite- banana+blueberries.
{Optional add-ins that I like are almond butter, rolled oats, scoop of protein powder}
Blueberry- Banana Green Monster Recipe:
2-3 cups spinach
1/4 c blueberries
1/2 -1 banana
3/4 c milk
handful of ice
Do any of y'all make green monsters?
I'd love to hear your recipes!

This is definitely not a combination I would have thought of! :)
ReplyDeleteI have made them before with raspberries and bananas! That was pretty good. I have never put oats in mine though! I am going to have to try that!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!

Hmm...see my problem is I don't like a lot of fruits either so I can't even cover up the greens with something XDXD GAH!! I suppose I should just suck it up and eat stuff even if I don't like it

I need to try this! I bought a juicer 2 months ago and only used it once! I've figured out that I am more of a smoothie kind of gal...xo
ReplyDeleteI would drink anything if it had adorable heart ice in it! SO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteI love green monsters! I make them all the time. I found a new recipe on pinterest that looks pretty good but haven't tried it yet. I posted my recipe a while back on my blog. I added some honey and cinnamon to mine and loved that addition.
ReplyDeleteThat heart piece of ice is so cute. I want to do that. But then I would be sad when they melted.

I should REALLY start making these!! Thanks for posting this. Yesterday I made a scrambled egg and toast for dinner because I wanted something fast and I felt so guilty that I actually didn't have one fruit or veggie serving ALL DAY LONG- unless you count the grape jelly I had- which I really don't count that. Headed to get spinach right after work!! Thanks Ashley!!
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulously healthy combo! i enjoy spinach but much less in a smoothie, i think. so i LOVE LOVE that you can't really taste the spinach yet get all the goodness from it!
ReplyDeletewill have to try this.
I just jumped on the almond milk train and I'm not looking back. so yummy!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I can get le toddler to drink it??

ReplyDeleteThat looks good. Hmmm, I may have to try that with the kids.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to make one of these... I need to get over the weirdness of putting spinach in a drink and do it!
ReplyDeletemmm, i love these types of smoothies!
ReplyDeleteI love the green monster! I add chia seeds to mine, they're these little seeds you can get at Whole Foods that have a supposed natural weight loss element in them. They're flavorless and I figured it can't hurt, right?
ReplyDeleteLooks delish! I don't make my own green monster, but I do LOVE Naked's Green Machine. Mmm...
ReplyDeletemy hubby and i have been dominating the green smoothies lately!! i really love them, and they are a great way to get in your veggies. we add kale in ours too... and isn't almond milk the best?!! love.
